We are looking for a Plant Maintenance Technician that will be responsible for the maintenance, inspection and repair of all control and instrumentation systems and equipment in a safe and efficient manner in a Liquefied Petroleum Gas Terminal (Hazardous Area site).

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Maintain all instrumentation systems controlling the process and utility systems, fire and gas protection/ detection system in a safe and competent manner
  • Carry out fault finding and diagnosis of problems affecting plant and systems, taking corrective actions to anticipate and prevent downtime
  • Operate as part of an integrated maintenance team and undertake maintenance in order to minimise production disruptions
  • Handle breakdown, shutdown and planned routine maintenance of instrumentation systems that also includes quality checks and keeping proper reports and records
  • Involved in new projects and application of new technology in delivery of projects and assistance in assessment of activity relating to Safety Instrumented System to ensure that Canvey Terminal meets its business objectives cost effectively whilst demonstrating compliance with statutory requirements
  • Third party activity supervision: Assistance and supervision of Gas Alarm System and visits for periodic testing of Gas detector system and Fire Alarm Systems respectively
  • Assist Calor engineers in Site acceptance test and Factory acceptance test for design and maintenance work done by Third party specialist vendor.
  • Inspect, test, adjust, and repair electric, electronic, mechanical and pneumatic instruments and systems used to indicate, record and control generating operations in LPG Import terminal: Inspects meters, indicators and gauges to detect abnormal fluctuations
  • Trace out and test electronic components to locate defective parts in analogue and digital monitoring equipment in Tank Monitoring system which involves radar gauges, tape gauges and Level alarming system such as Pneumacator unit and Capacitance probe unit using test equipment, schematics and maintenance manuals
  • Maintain inventory of spares, timely tests and calibrates test equipment, liaises with the Maintenance planner and assists in organising the SHIRE system giving valuable maintenance inputs.
  • Provide input to the Instrument Engineer in preparing, tracking and updating schematic drawings, sketches and reports to reflect changes or alterations made in instrument circuits and systems
  • Source and discuss pricing with external sources before presenting to the Terminals Manager

As such we would like you to:

  • Hold GCSE’s Grades C and above in Maths, Science and English
  • Have a minimum of 3 years experience working in a production maintenance environment
  • Hold City & Guilds qualification in Control & Instrumentation
  • Compex Certified
  • Have experience from working within a similar industry, ideally hazardous sites
  • Strong and detailed knowledge of PetroChem & Power Plant Instrumentation and Control Systems and maintenance of such including electric, electronic, mechanical and pneumatic instruments
  • Experience of maintaining inventory
  • Ability to track and update schematic drawings and reports
  • Have a good set of computer skills and an ability to read and interpret computer generated reports.
