Are you a proven leader in high-hazard industries, with a passion for operational excellence and a strong safety-first ethos? We’re looking for a Production Manager to join our leadership team at Calor’s Canvey Island Terminal, the UK’s largest off-grid LPG delivery network.
This is a key leadership role responsible for overseeing the safe and reliable operation of our terminal, managing ship berthing, marine unloading/loading, and production processes that support our national energy supply. The role leads a team of 6 Shift Team Leaders, 12 Operators, and 1 Permit to Work Lead, ensuring strong performance, compliance, and continuous development across a 24/7 operation.
Due to the nature of the role and emergency call-out responsibilities, the successful candidate must live within a 60-minute commute of the Canvey Island site.
What You'll Be Doing
Lead and develop a high-performing production team across a 24/7 COMAH terminal operation.
Ensure the safe, compliant, and efficient import, storage, and distribution of LPG.
Oversee ship berthing, marine operations, tanker loading, and process optimisation.
Work closely with the Maintenance and Engineering teams to minimise downtime and ensure operational continuity.
Act as a leader in emergency response situations and be part of the on-call duty rota.
Drive operational excellence through continuous improvement, coaching, and mentoring.
Oversee daily permits to work and ensure procedures, policies, and HSE standards are upheld.
Support strategic planning and long-term development of the site as part of the Terminal Leadership Team.
Maintain accurate and timely reporting, performance reviews, and budget management.
Ensure all training and development plans are implemented and maintained.
What We’re Looking For
We’re seeking a confident and capable leader with a strong background in high-hazard environments and a commitment to safety, performance, and continuous improvement. The ideal candidate will bring:
Proven leadership experience in high-hazard or COMAH site operations.
Experience or an understanding of marine operations, including ship berthing, unloading, and the use of loading arms.
A deep understanding of health and safety procedures, risk control, emergency response, and a “safety-first” mindset. Familiarity with Risk Assessment, COSHH, Work Instructions, and safe working practices.
Strong working knowledge of Safe Systems of Work, isolation procedures, Permit to Work systems, and incident investigation.
Experience with DCS and CMMS systems, and the ability to manage daily operations through structured planning and effective use of digital tools.
Practical knowledge of HR processes, team development, and operational training.
Proven ability to manage production planning, resource allocation, and budgets in a dynamic, 24/7 operation.
Flexibility to support the needs of the business, including on-call duties and emergency attendance when required.
Full UK Driving License
Desirable
A HNC/D in engineering or a relevant discipline, a degree in Engineering
A IOSH/NEBOSH qualification
