Transport Planner – Bulk Distribution

Fixed term contract until April 2027 with the possibility of going permanent

Salary: £28-31,000 per annum depending on skills and experience

Location: Coryton

Shift Patterns: Tuesday - Thursday 13:00 - 21:00 (flexible when required) 

Business Area: Bulk Logistics

Reporting Line: Transport Planning Shift Lead / Area Bulk Manager

 

Job Purpose

The Transport Planner supports the safe, efficient, compliant, and customer-focused delivery of Bulk LPG operations. The role is responsible for developing and managing daily transport plans, balancing safety, customer service, operational efficiency, compliance, vehicle utilisation, and cost.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Promote a strong safety culture and ensure safe planning decisions at all times.
  • Develop, monitor, and adjust daily delivery plans to meet customer and operational requirements.
  • Utilise planning systems and the Runbook to optimise routes, manage orders, and maintain service continuity.
  • Monitor orders, telemetry, metered estates, customer data, and seasonal demand to support proactive planning.
  • Manage aborts, fails, disruptions, and recovery activity to minimise run-outs and protect customer service.
  • Maintain accurate system records, trip reconciliations, and planning data.
  • Communicate effectively with drivers, Transport Controllers, Customer Services, Customer Engineering, and other stakeholders.
  • Capture driver feedback, resolve transport-related customer issues, and drive continuous improvement.
  • Monitor telematics, exceptions, and performance trends, taking corrective action where required.
  • Take ownership of daily plan execution, decision-making, and customer outcomes.

Knowledge, Skills and Experience

  • Experience in transport planning, route optimisation, and logistics operations.
  • Strong understanding of safety, compliance, customer service, and cost management.
  • Competent in planning, telematics, Salesforce, KPI, and reporting systems.
  • Strong communication, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
  • High attention to detail and commitment to data accuracy and compliance.
  • Ability to prioritise and perform effectively in a fast-paced operational environment.

Key Stakeholders

Area Bulk Managers, Transport Controllers, Customer Services, Customer Engineering, Drivers, Logistics Performance Teams, Sales, National Accounts, IT, Transformation Teams, and customers affected by transport planning decisions.
